Prayer
I cannot emphasize enought the importance of prayer in helping you with any problem. Prayer saved my life, spiritually and physically. I have prayed my way out of more difficult situations than I can count. My husband and I literally prayed our way out of Los Angeles, Bible in hand. The angels rejoice when a sinner prays!
Try to set aside a part of your day for prayer, even if only for five minutes a day. Below are some simple guidelines for Christian prayer and spiritual practice:
For Catholics:
Daily recitation of the Holy Rosary. Even if you're not Catholic, I encourage you to give this powerful, scripturally sound devotion a try. It is a prayer of the Gospels. It heals, inspires, comforts, protects. If you can't pray the entire Rosary, say one decade or even one Hail Mary per day. The Blessed Mother brought me to her Son and through this devotion, she keeps me there.
Frequent Mass attendance, ideally every day. The Celebration of The Most Holy Eucharist is the most powerful form of praise and worship there is. It is the most intimate union with Our Lord and it has been known to break even the most stubborn of addictions and spiritual oppressions.
Regular reception of the sacrament of reconciliation, ideally once a month. Gabriel Amorth, the chief exorcist at the Vatican, says that this sacrament is more powerful than the rite of exorcism in healing and deliverance. Why? Because God's mercy and forgiveness is there. It is very effective in breaking the most stubborn of sins.
Pray the Stations of the Cross. After the Mass, this is said to be one of the most powerful forms of prayer. Unite your sufferings with Our Lord as you make the journey with him to Calvary. Again, very healing.
Use of sacramentals: holy water, medals, crucifixes, blessed salt, the scapular, holy pictures and statues. Essential in every Catholic home. Unclean spirits do exist, and they need to be kept out of your dwelling place. They are also excellent in keeping your home physically safe. Wear a blessed crucifix, a miraculous medal, and the brown scapular to protect your person from spiritual and temporal dangers.
Eucharistic Adoration. Sit before the Blessed Sacrament occasionally, even if only for a few minutes at a time. One hour weekly is ideal. More adoration chapels are opening up every day due to the resurgence of poularity of this wonderful practice. If you don't live near a chapel, just sit before the tabernacle in church, where Jesus waits hidden for you. It will make you more holy and happy to spend regular time in the presence of Our Lord.
Saints to Live By
Below are some spiritual powerhouses throughout history who have been a source of inspiration to millions. A saint is merely a sinner who kept trying.
Saint Mary Magdelene - Former prostitute and patroness of penitent sinners. One of Our Lord's most faithful followers, she stood at the foot of the cross as Jesus hung upon it dying. The Bible's most famous sex industry survivor!
Saint Philomena - Virgin and child martyr. Little is known about this early Christian girl. A powerful intercessor, especially for purity.
Saint Augustine - Lived a life of debauchery and followed a religious cult for years, then became one of the holiest and penitent of Christians.
Saint Mary of Egypt - Teenaged runaway who became a dancer and prostitute. A miraculous spiritual encounter brought her to Christ. Lived the rest of her life in great holiness as a hermit in the desert.
Saint Margaret of Cortona - Debauched mistress and worldly woman who turned her life around and devoted the rest of her years to service to impoverished women and children in her comunity.
Saint Maria Goretti - Devout Christian since a young child who died defending her chastity from a young man who stalked her and attempted to rape her. She forgave her murderer as she lay dying. Moved by her forgiveness, he later converted to Christianity in prison.

For All Christians:
Daily reading of sacred scripture, ideally at least half an hour per day.
Daily praise, such as reading the psalms aloud.
Church attendance every Sunday at a Bible believing church that embraces and accepts you as you are and that emphasizes praising God as a congregation in song.
VERY IMPORTANT : Fellowship with other Christian sex industry survivors. Isolation is your enemy as you try to leave your old way of life. Stay in touch with other Christians by phone and email and meet with them often. Contact the nearest ministry which is listed on the homepage of this website and make friends.
